FAQs

  • Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized non-musical goals within the domains of speech, social-emotional, cognitive, and motor functioning by a credentialed professional. No prior musical abilities are necessary to start Music Therapy.

  • Neurologic Music Therapy is “the therapeutic application of music to cognitive, sensory, and motor dysfunctions due to neurologic disease of the human nervous system. Treatment techniques are based on the scientific knowledge of music perception and production and the effects of nonmusical brain and behavior functions” (NMT).

  • The first session before regular weekly sessions will be the Assessment. Its purpose is to provide a baseline for where the child is at in the areas of communication, social, emotional, cognitive, and motor functioning. It will look very similar to a typical music therapy session, but the focus is on assessing the client’s abilities rather than addressing specific outlined goals. The clinician will also review provided scripts from other therapy disciplines and doctors and consult with the family. After the initial assessment, the clinician will provide a treatment plan that will outline the functional goals and objectives that both the clinician and family deem appropriate for the child to work on in therapy sessions moving forward. Weekly SOAP note documentation is done to track progress, take home materials are administered upon request, and a quarterly progress report will be given to the family to summarize progress and to convey to other medical professionals for their personal documentation purposes.

  • Music Therapy sessions all look a little different depending on the needs of each individual; however, all sessions are designed to meet specific outlined goals by incorporating similar interventions such as:
    • Instrument Play & Singing
    • Sensory Play / Messy Play
    • Movement to Music
    • Structured Table-top Work
    • Songwriting and Lyric Analysis
    • Emotion Regulation and Coping Strategies
    • Books, board games, crafts, etc.
    • Foundational Concepts to promote school readiness (Labeling, colors, the alphabet, counting, body awareness, animal identification and sounds, turn-taking, hygiene, etc.)
    • Therapy is disguised in the form of play to more easily engage your child throughout each therapy session to help master goals. The clinical space is fully equipped with resources and activities to provide accessible sensory input in the areas of oral, tactile, auditory, visual, proprioception, and vestibular.

  • Music Therapy is used to promote the development of a child in the areas of social, emotional, cognitive, speech, and motor functioning. A treatment plan is established after the initial assessment is executed. Goals that could be addressed, but are not limited to:

  • • 24 hour notice is needed to excuse any absences. Absences due to sudden issues, such as car issues or illnesses are excusable. If the situation allows it, telehealth will be offered by the clinician. Should an unexcused absence occur the full session fee will be charged.
    • Makeups are available whenever a session is missed, if possible
    • Excessive absences or patterns of absences will lead to dismissal after a warning
    • If gone for three weeks of unexcused absences, your appointment time slot will not be held. Upon return, the clinician will look for other available time slots.

    • Each session is 40 minutes, if you are late to the session your child will only be seen for the time remaining. The session fee will remain the same. Due to having back to back appointments, appointment times are not easily flexible.

  • An invoice will be sent to you via email at the start of the month. The therapist will communicate with the parent to determine the correct amount of sessions to bill for. If an excused absence occurs after being billed a session will be removed from the following months invoice.

It is the client’s responsibility to pay for the session within 30 days of receipt of the invoice.
