Auditory Processing Disorders affect one’s ability to understand speech. Music Therapy helps promote receptive communication by understanding speech in noisy environments, direction following, and distinguishing between similar sounds.
A therapeutic example could be having the child follow a specific direction within a musical intervention. Every time the clinician changes the instrument being played, the child must follow the specified direction given. Background music or noise can then be added for an additional complexity. This promotes auditory processing, coordination, and executive cognitive functioning.
